Interventions for self-management in adolescents with Type 1 Diabetes: a scoping review protocol

Resumo: Introduction: Adolescent development involves building autonomy and progressive independence from parental supervision. Challenges that are more complex when they have a diagnosis of type 1 diabetes and have to take responsibility for managing their condition. At this age, it is crucial to implement interventions to promote self-management skills in adolescents with type 1 diabetes.  Objective: The aim of this scoping review is to identify and map interventions that promote self-management skills in adolescents with type 1 diabetes.    Methods: The methodology will follow the Joanna Briggs Institute recommendations for scoping reviews. Studies published in English, Portuguese and Spanish between 2009-2021 will be considered, with no geographical or cultural limitations. The process of data analysis, extraction, and synthesis will be performed by two independent reviewers, based on the inclusion criteria. The results of the study selection will be presented in a Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) flow diagram for scoping reviews. This protocol is registered at Open Science Framework https://osf.io/z6wbj. Results: Mapping the interventions for adolescents with type 1 diabetes, may constitute a tool for the design of a structured intervention to promote self-management behaviour in adolescents with type 1 diabetes and contribute to the dissemination of available evidence on the topic. Conclusion: The results from this review are expected to gather relevant information that will serve as a basis for the development of a nursing intervention for adolescents with diabetes.

Este desafio torna-se mais complexo perante um diagnóstico de diabetes tipo 1, o que exige responsabilização do adolescente face à gestão da doença. Nesta fase revela-se crucial a implementação de intervenções promotoras de competências de autogestão.   Objetivo: Mapeamento de intervenções promotoras de autogestão para adolescentes com diabetes tipo 1. Método: Esta revisão scoping segue a metodologia proposta pelo Joanna Briggs Institute. Serão incluídos estudos publicados em inglês, espanhol e português, entre 2009-2021, sem limitações geográficas ou culturais.  O processo de análise, extração e síntese de dados será realizada por dois revisores de forma independente, de acordo com os critérios de inclusão. Os resultados serão apresentados de seguindo as orientações do Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA), diagrama para revisões scoping.  O protocolo encontra-se registado no Open Science Framework https://osf.io/z6wbj.
