Resumo: Following a short biographical itinerary of Luís Pinto de Sousa Coutinho (1735-1804), 1st Viscount of Balsemão, we refer to the Library of which he was the prime founder and the main vicissitudes affecting this remarkable aristocratic library. Drawing from a handwritten inventory, still hardly known or studied, we highlight the main features of the Library of the Viscounts of Balsemão, as well as some its scientific books (dating back to the 16th and 17th centuries), currently under the custody of the Oporto Municipal Public Library.

A partir de un inventario manuscrito aún poco conocido y estudiado mostramos brevemente los trazos principales que caracterizan a esta Librería de los Vizcondes de Balsemão, así como algunos libros científicos de los siglos XVI y XVII que provienen de allí y que se encuentran en la actualidad al cuidado de la Biblioteca Pública Municipal de Oporto.Nous procédons à un bref itinéraire biographique de Luís Pinto de Sousa Coutinho (1735‐1804), 1er Vicomte de Balsemão, nous faisons allusion à la “Librairie” dont il a été le principal fondateur et nous faisons référence aux principales vicissitudes qui ont affecté cette remarquable bibliothèque aristocratique privée. Nous mettons succinctement en évidence, à partir d’un inventaire manuscrit, encore très peu connu et étudié, les principales lignes de caractérisation de la Librairie des Vicomtes de Balsemão, ainsi que certains livres scientifiques, des XVIe et XVIIe siècles, qui en proviennent et qui, actuellement, sont à la garde de la Bibliothèque Publique Municipale de Porto.Apresenta-se um breve itinerário biográfico de Luís Pinto de Sousa Coutinho (1735-1804), 1º Visconde de Balsemão, alude‐se à “Livraria” de que foi o principal obreiro e referem‐se as principais vicissitudes que afetaram esta notável biblioteca aristocrática privada.
