Resumo: Until know, the task of assessing the overall coherence of count Pedro de Barcelos works (Livro das Cantigas, Livro de Linhagens and Crónica de 1344), and thus ascertaining whether they had autonomous purposes or were encompassed by a single articulate project emerging from a specific worldview, had not been undertaken. That is precisely the goal of the present essay, made possible by recent advances in the knowledge of the Count's writing activity. Our conclusions make apparent the subjects that motivated him most, as well as the way he handled them in constant tension between a deep concern with the functioning of a society based on lineage and ensuing hierarchy, on the one hand, and, on the other, the temporal, historical and eschatological standpoint providing the background against which his comprehensive writing project is set.
