Resumo: Dental veneers are thin layers of ceramic that are applied to the outer surface of the tooth, coating them and changing their shape, color, length and position. Like any medical and dental procedure, the application of aesthetic veneers also includes contraindications that can generate some problems. The purpose of this review is to analyze the main contraindications of porcelain laminate veneers placement and to determine which patients are not indicated for this type of treatment. The contraindications found are: excessive enamel removal, dentine exposure, malposition, bruxism, difficulty in dental adhesion, caries and poor oral hygiene. For the realization of this work several texts and scientific articles on the subject have been consulted, using the following keywords: “Porcelain laminate veneers”, “Aesthetics”, “Contraindications”, “Survival of porcelain laminate veneers”.

Como qualquer intervenção médica e odontológica, a aplicação de facetas estéticas apresenta contra-indicações que podem gerar alguns problemas. O objetivo desta revisão é analisar as principais contraindicações da colocação das facetas de cerâmica e determinar quais pacientes que não são indicados para este tipo de tratamento. As contraindicações encontradas são: remoção excessiva de esmalte, exposição da dentina, má disposição dentária, bruxismo, dificuldade na adesão dentária, cárie e má higiene oral.
