Health care sensitive safety and risk management indicators: perspective of nursing professionals

Introduction: The patient safety culture is considered a valid indicator, at the institutional and group structural level, which make up the health teams. It is important to revisit and analyze grounded practical knowledge about the variables that constitute indicators of safety and risk management (ISR) sensitive to nursing care, and their quality. Objective: Recognize the perception of nursing professionals regarding safety and risk management indicators sensitive to nursing care and opportunities for improvement in the areas of safety for the person in a critical situation. Methods: Descriptive study, exploratory, cross-sectional, was developed through the application, online, of the questionnaire “Assessment of Patient Safety Culture in Hospital Environment” (Eiras et al., 2014)), to a sample of 48 nurses, who provide care to patients in critical situations. Results: Regarding ISR, most of the sample (83.3%) considers between “acceptable to very good”, the IS “service/work unit”. Among the ISGR, the dimension “teamwork” stood out as the strongest IS in care. In terms of improvement opportunities, the sample identified the remaining dimensions as intervention targets. Conclusion: It is suggested the need to invest in a safety culture that promotes voluntary and non-punitive notification of errors, adverse incidents, and safe supplies.
