Resumo: The thesis aims to find a rational explanation for psychophysiological processes as crucial methods in creating stimulating and sense' engaging architecture. Initially approaches cognitive processes and design elements present in spaces with unique and multisensory ambiences. It explores distinct fields such as psychology, neuroscience, and architecture, as well as their theories and ideologies. Eight works are selected, addressed and paired, one visited and the other unvisited: Notre-Dame-du-Haut Chapel by Le Corbusier and Farnsworth House by Mies van der Rohe; Piscina das Marés by Álvaro Siza and Therme Vals by Peter Zumthor; Maison Carré by Alvar Aalto and Tacubaya Studio House by Luis Barragán; Casa de Caminha by Sérgio Fernandez and Bruder Klaus Field Chapel by Peter Zumthor. In the discussion, emotions and sensations are linked with specific architectural objects. It focusses on the importance of crossing different fields and study the human psyche as an effective tool in designing spaces that actively involves and stimulates the senses.
