Resumo: This project examines the challenge of managing the Portugueseelectric powergrid, whichwill experiencethe installationof large amounts of solar and wind capacity and full coalphasing-out during the next decade.The Irena FlexTool is used tostudy the flexibility of the power grid in 2030 under differentscenarios.Weconcludethatthe variable renewable energy (VRE)expectedinstalled capacity will frequentlyproduceexcessiveenergysupply, leading to high levelsof curtailment. Hence, the power baseload price will decreasebetween 1% and 13%andinvestments opportunities between 30,1M and 71,3M (€ 2019)will be generatedby 2030.
