Nesta dissertação procurou-se aprofundar as características deste tipo de arquitectura nos itinerários de fronteira, no território de Bemposta, com o propósito de perceber que povos estiveram na sua origem, como se moldaram e implantaram no território, como se organizaram, quais as escolhas que fizeram para os assentamentos do edificado, os seus modelos, a sua funcionalidade, os materiais e técnicas construtivas que utilizaram. Procurou-se, ainda, perceber qual a razão, num território tão periférico, de existirem dois tipos de arquitectura: uma arquitectura popular na sua maioria e uma arquitectura erudita reflectida nas casas brasonadas e nos solares. Conscientes desta problemática, com o intuito de compreender e reaprender, através das diversas camadas de história arquitectónica, a forma de intervir na resolução dos problemas neste território foi através da arquitectura. Assim sendo, esta capacidade de integrar nas novas construções o que de positivo foi encontrado e aplicado ao longo dos tempos, seleccionou-se a Casa Calado para desenvolver o projecto de arquitectura, onde se aplicaram técnicas relacionadas com a recuperação e a salvaguarda, sempre com a preocupação de reutilizar o que resta e ao mesmo tempo atribuir-lhe novos usos, ou seja, a criação de um Centro de Memórias. A Ideia de Centro Memórias surgiu porque quando realizamos os levantamento familiarizámo-nos com o edifício e ficávamos com curiosidade em saber quem eram os Calados e o que terá acontecido para que este edifício tão imponente quer ao nível formal, material e construtivo, quer ao nível de impacto na sua envolvente, chegar ao estado calamitoso em que se encontrava. Esta forma de intervir, contribuiu para recuperar um edifício que estava a definhar, devolve-lo á comunidade mais humanizado e mais inclusivo servindo de repositório de memórias que, responda às necessidades deste tempo e desta população sem descaracterizar a matriz identitária do edifício e de Bemposta.Abstract: Popular architecture emanates from the people and serves the same people; it is a simple and anonymous architecture with no frills that mold itself to the characteristics of the environment, using materials from this medium and usually implants itself strategically along the water lines. In this dissertation, sought to deepen the characteristics of this type of architecture in the itineraries of the frontier, in the territory of Bemposta, with the aim of realizing that the people have been in their origin, and shaped and implemented in the territory, how they organized, what choices were made to the settlernents of the building, their models, their functionality, construction materials and techniques they used. We tried to also realize what the reason, in a territory so peripheral, that there are two types of architecture: architecture for the most popular and classical architecture reflected in the stately houses and solar. Aware of this problem, in order to understand and relearn, through the various layers of architectural history, the way to intervene in the resolution of problerns in this area was through architecture. Thus, this ability to integrate the new constructions what was found positive and applied over time, selected to Casa Calada to develop the architectural project, where they applied techniques related to the recovery and protection, always with the concern to reuse the remains while giving it new uses, in, the creation of a Centro de Memórias. The idea of Centro de Memórias came about when we conducted the survey to become acquainted with the building and became curious to know who were the Calados and what had happened for this building so imposing both at formal, material and constructive, both in terms of impact on its surroundings, to reach the calamitous state in which it was found. This form of intervention, contributed to restore a building that was languishing, return it to the community more inclusive and more humane serving as a repository of memories that meets the needs of this population and this time without disfiguring the identity matrix of the building and Bemposta.
