The master's dissertation here presented is about Dr. Lourenço Peixinho Avenue; one of the roads which stands out the most in Aveiro. Through its almost 100 years' history, many studies have been developed, first as an expansion axe and then as a consolidated one. Lately, architectural concerns have been focusing mostly on the avenue's buildings and urban plans of the city and of Dr. Lourenço Peixinho Avenue. This paper will attempt to confront these plans, specially the Dr. Lourenço Peixinho programme presented by the City Council, with the surveys and studies carried out by the author, so that an independent view can be made of what this avenue is and represents today and throughout its past existence and its future to come as a consolidated axe of Aveiro. In the last decades, the high urban expansion of Aveiro also changed its urban role. It is then urgent to think and develop an intervention strategy. From this, it is elaborated a programmatic plan which expresses the intentions to reorganise the future avenue. These will be the topics which will be explored in this master's dissertation.
