A loucura constitui uma típica referência de alteridade e diferença radical, no sentido em que o louco aparece como a imagem do absolutamente outro, porque a loucura é sempre do outro. Este artigo aborda a realidade de que modelos de pensamento e práticas de representação sobre a loucura continuam, na verdade, a ser reproduzidos pelos próprios profissionais de saúde mental, demonstrando que novas direcções da intervenção, na condição da doença mental grave, implicam também uma transformação, no quadro das próprias práticas simbólicas da interacção terapêutica. The Madness that Comes from the Other OnlyMadness constitutes a typical reference of alterity and radical difference, in the sense that the mad appears as the image of the absolute other, because madness is always the other’s madness. This article approaches the reality that models of thought and practices of representation on madness are still being reproduced by the mental health professionals themselves, demonstrating that new directions of intervention, in the condition of severe mental disease, also imply a transformation, in the ambit of the symbolic practices of therapeutic interaction.Keywords: Madness; serious mental illness; attitudes; intervention; mental health professionals.
