This paper aims to discuss risk assessment for the conservation of movable industrial her it age, according to the risk management model applied to preventive conservation. The case study is a German Schwartzkopff steam roller. The machine was built in the 1920s and was operational throughout 1940/1950 decades at the Pampulha Campus construction works of the Federal University of Minas Gerais (UFMG), Belo Horizonte, Minas Ge rais, Brazil. The research methodology is based on the Canadian Conservation Institute (ICC) and Spanish Institute of Cultural Heritage (IPCE) models, focusing on Michalski’s Model of identification of deterioration agents and risk management according to the ABC Method (Michalski and Pedersoli Jr.). It seeks to propose reflections on the preservation of industrial elements as heritage objects that are not only historical, but also cultural, and include science and technology as factors of representativeness and identity of individuals, groups and society.
