Resumo: Based on Sarmento de Beires' narrative about the journey by air, which, in 1924, first linked Portugal to Macau in a pioneering raid of world aviation, we seek to assess the significance of this daring achievement in the context of international aviation and Portugal's relationship with the Portuguese colony residing in Macau, as well as the impact that such an undertaking had on the Portuguese people and political life in Lisbon.
