Resumo: Since 2014, China has set the goal of developing its sports industry. The aim is to make the sector represent 5% of Chinese GDP by 2035. That is why, in 2016, the development of football was identified as the driving force behind the progress of the entire Chinese sports industry, as shown in the “China’s medium and long-term football development plan (2016-2050)”- (中国足球中长期发展规划 2016—2050年). There are, however, challenges that China needs to overcome in order for this plan to succeed. And this was seen in the recent naturalization of footballers aiming to qualify for the World Cup in Qatar 2022. This chapter seeks to answer the following question. Does resorting to foreign footballers affect the Football Plan, in particular the goal of developing young Chinese talent in order to build a strong national team?

Does resorting to foreign footballers affect the Football Plan, in particular the goal of developing young Chinese talent in order to build a strong national team?
