Não sendo diferente, a cidade contemporânea verte no seu traçado a realidade de uma sociedade dinâmica e pungente. Fruto de diversas transformações sociais, económicas e territoriais, a cidade contemporânea abre a porta para uma nova revolução, a terceira, após a da cidade clássica (primeira revolução) e a da cidade industrial (segunda revolução). Em conjunto, estas revoluções traduzem fenómenos de mutação urbana, que expressam as diferentes variáveis intrínsecas a cada tipo sociedade. Partindo da definição da linha evolutiva das cidades, desde a cidade grega até aos nossos dias, a presente dissertação reflete sobre o domínio da transformação territorial. Este estudo constitui uma importante ferramenta para a compreensão das linhas caracterizadoras da cidade contemporânea, que se assume como o principal desafio deste trabalho.Cities are a great living, evolving systems that reflect the type of society they host. Being no different, the contemporary city sheds in its outline the reality of a dynamic and pungent society. As a result of diverse social, economic and territorial transformations, the contemporary city opens the door to a new revolution, the third, after the classical city (first revolution) and the industrial city (second revolution). Together, these revolutions translate phenomena of urban mutation, which express the different variables of each type of society. Starting from the definition of the evolutionary line of cities, from the Greek city to the present day, this dissertation reflects on the domain of territorial transformation.
