Resumo: In the world of videogame music, most composers do not dedicate themselves exclusively to the writing of music, as there is pressure for composers to equally work on sound design, foley, programming, and audio implementation, as well as to create contacts and do self-promotion. From this multiplication of skills comes a transformation of the specialized videogame composer into a generalist and an entrepreneur who becomes responsible for self-promotion and the creation and implementation of all sound elements of a digital game. This thesis will explore this phenomenon of diversification of composers’ knowledge and roles in indie game development. To this end, we present a literature review focusing on videogame music research and on the professionalization of musicians in this medium, an analysis of information aimed at composers and audio workers created by professionals already in the industry, interviews to industry professionals e reports by game jam participants and music mods creators. This research aims to provide a better understanding of the functioning of the subculture of videogame audio workers in the pre-professional and indie contexts, as well as the technical and mercantile pressures these workers are exposed to.
