For this purpose, the Didaskalikos of Alcinous will be the primary instrument that we use to define the origin, influences and convergences of Middle Platonism, along with other parallel texts in timing and content. The survival of this entire work offers us an excellent opportunity to reconstruct accurately the general nature of Middle Platonism as one of the most crucial - and at the same time one of the most unknown - times in the development and expansion of Platonism.
