Resumo: The purpose of the present study was to create a model, which illustrates a landscape of opportunities for shooting in a competitive football match. For that purpose, a single football match was used, analysing a sample of 75 attacking phases (n= 75), occurring in the 30 last meters of the field. Supported by players’ relative positioning, using a bi-dimensional x and y coordinates of each player, and the ball recorded at 25 fps, the potential shot trajectories were modelled. This data was then used to create heatmaps that illustrated the shooting opportunities that were available in the first and second half in different field areas. Moreover, the time available for these shooting opportunities was estimated, as well as the angle of the shot. The obtained heatmaps provide specific information over each team's attacking patterns and were dependent on the specificity of the player’s displacements. The results have shown a significant difference between the numbers, as well as the angles, of the shooting opportunities available for each team. The space and time available for these shooting opportunities did not have a homogenous distribution over the field. This customizable tool has shown a sensibility for shooting opportunities and can be used in real-time video analysis for individual and collective performance analysis.
