Resumo: In January 2019, the European Commission published its Report on the «Competition Enforcement in the Pharmaceutical Sector (2009-2017): European competition authorities working together for affordable and innovative medicines». The report was drafted in close cooperation with the national competition authorities of the 28 Member States of the European Union, with which the Commission works in the European Competition Network. It presents an overview on the enforcement of antitrust and merger rules in the pharmaceutical sector and describes how competition law enforcement has contributed to improving European patients’ access to affordable and innovative essential medicines. This section describes a brief summary of the report, which can be consulted at: http://ec.europa.eu/competition/publications/reports/kd0718081enn.pdf.

O relatório foi elaborado em estreita cooperação com as autoridades nacionais da concorrência dos 28 Estados-Membros da União Europeia, que trabalham com a Comissão na Rede Europeia da Concorrência. É apresentado o enquadramento da aplicação das regras em matéria de antitrust e de concentrações no sector farmacêutico, e descreve o modo como a aplicação do direito da concorrência contribuiu para melhorar o acesso dos doentes a medicamentos essenciais, inovadores e a preços acessíveis.
