Resumo: Ruy Jervis d'Athouguia is a portuguese architect who worked, actively, through 40 years and has produced in great quantity and quality, leaving behind a legacy of extraordinary works of great architectural value. Nonetheless, a considerable amount of his projects never left the paper sheets. His career takes a different direction with his participation in the competition for the Headquarters and Museum of the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation, in Lisbon, which he wins and builds, in collaboration with the architects Pedro Cid and Alberto Pessoa. Thus, this work has the objective of discovering and understanding how this architect's professional course was, after such a pivotal moment, that happens relatively late in his life. Furthermore, it is necessary to conduct this study, to catalogue Ruy d'Athouguia's work - built or not -, to frame each one in its respective historical and cultural context and, to reconstruct the universe in which the architect lives and works. The real finality of this dissertation is to be able to make a contribution towards the production of knowledge about this architect, to enable new readings and interpretations of his work and to motivate similar studies about other architects who remain forgotten by the history of portuguese architecture.
