Enquanto estudo comparativo, procura perceber de que forma é que os frescos existentes no convento florentino de S. Marco foram representados ao longo das várias páginas que compõem a narrativa. Da mesma feita, procura compreender, ainda, qual a importância desta relação e como é que esta interfere no possível significado da história.Para isso, esta dissertação foi dividida em quatros momentos que pretendem incidir sobre os principais âmbitos desta relação. Primeiramente, elabora-se uma breve síntese metodológica, que tem como objetivo mostrar o percurso realizado pelos estudos interartes até aos nossos dias, apresentando também as linhas de base deste trabalho. Seguidamente, apontam-se três pontos de foco, sendo o inicial as figuras que compõem o conto, Antonio Tabucchi, o seu autor, e Beato Angelico, o pintor e a sua personagem central. Ocupando uma posição essencial e relevante, o terceiro capítulo é de ordem comparativa, de tal modo que os frescos e as suas descrições são colocados em “confronto”, de forma a percebermos a sua ligação. Passando para o diálogo entre palavra e imagem, o último momento de análise é essencial para a compreensão do verdadeiro significado desta relação. O que se retira deste estudo é uma forte e especifica ligação entre literatura e pintura, criada de forma tão delicada e com tanta mestria que interfere de forma decisiva e direta com o significado da história. Mostra, mais uma vez, como a multiplicidade de sentidos ocupa um lugar essencial no desenvolvimento da narrativa tabucchiana. Assim, também aqui, são apresentados uma história e um conjunto de elementos que são muito mais do que aquilo que se revelam numa primeira leitura."Antonio Tabucchi, the painter" is a study that seeks to understand the connection between literature and painting in "I volatili del Beato Angelico", written by the italian author Antonio Tabucchi. As a comparative study, it examines the way in which the frescos, created and painted by the artist Beato Angelico in the florentine monastery of S. Marco, are represented and portrayed in the text. With that purpose in mind, it tries to follow the importance of this relation and how it interferes in the possible meaning of the story. To achieve it, this dissertation was divided in four moments that aim to explore the main scopes of this connection between the two medias. First, it presents a methodological summary, in which the purpose is to show the course already made by the interarts studies until the present day and to present the guidelines chosen for this thesis. Thereafter, are three main focal points in this study. The first is an overview of the two main figures of the story, Antonio Tabucchi, the author, and Beato Angelico, the artist and main character. Occupying a central and relevant position, the third chapter is the comparative study itself, where the descriptions are confronted with the frescoes, so we can understand their connection. Moving to the dialog between word and image, the last moment focus on the comprehension of the relationship between word and image. What can be concluded from this thesis is a strong and specific bond between literature and painting, created in a dedicated manner and with such craft that interferes in a decisive way in the story. It also shows that the presence of the multiplicity of meanings is essential to the development of the narrative created by Tabucchi.
