Indisputably valued in contemporary times, the short story proves that, despite the frequently claimed crisis of narrative, the taste of telling (and reading) tales hasn’t faded at all. As one would expect, the practice of this short narrative form requires a theoretical approach that, while pointing out  invariant generic features, also accounts for the configurations that the short story takes on presently. Whether in relation to contemporary or to past writers, the affinities of the genre to lyrical poetry are usually emphasized in all short story theories. That being the case, when it becomes poetic, we could assert, following in Jorge Luís Borges’s footsteps, that telling a tale is also singing it.
