O espaço rural tem vindo a sofrer um processo de transformação a nível identitário e funcional onde se procura alternativas à agricultura de subsistência, através da introdução de novas funções associadas à ruralidade, o turismo impulsiona e ajuda ao desenvolvimento da região “Espaço Rural”. A atividade turística no meio rural promove a conservação do património edificado e do património ambiental e é uma ferramenta no desenvolvimento territorial, económico e social, importante para o desenvolvimento e fixação das populações. Esta dissertação apresenta a implementação de um Centro Interpretativo do Parque Nacional da Peneda Gerês em Castro Laboreiro, juntamente com a revitalização urbana, o melhoramento dos percursos e equipamentos turísticos existentes em Castro Laboreiro. A arquitetura contemporânea acrescenta valor ao espaço rural, contribuindo para o melhoramento da qualidade urbana/arquitetónica da população residente, para turistas/visitantes, para o concelho de Melgaço e para o Parque Nacional da Peneda Gerês.Abstract: The following dissertation presents the study of the contemporary symbiosis in the rural area and how this could boost the social and economic development. The rural area has been suffering a transformation process at his identity and functional level where we look for alternatives for the subsistence farming through presenting new functions to the rurality, the tourism boosts and helps developing the region "Espaço Rural". The tourism in the rural environment promotes the erected heritage conservation and the environmental assets and is a tool in the territorial development, economic and social, crucial to the growth and setting of the population. This dissertation presents the implementation of the centre interpretative of "Parque Nacional da Peneda Gerês" in Castro Laboreiro together with the urban revitalization and improving the touristic paths and equipment's existing in Castro Laboreiro.
