Covilhã is located on the slopes of Serra da Estrela, having had two important industrial centers on the banks of the Goldra and Carpinteira brooks. During its industrialization period, it specialized in wool production, mainly between the 15th century and the first decades of the 20th century, having been designated as the “factory city”, due to its great concentration and specialization in this type of industry. This made this urban center an important economic center for Portugal.
