Estes resultados mostram a necessidade de repensar a criação de bairros exclusivamente destinados à população cigana e a necessidade de estudar mais profundamente o impacto da exclusão espacial; - Gypsy community spacially segregated: Impact of the place attachment on intergroup relations, sense of community and future perspectives Abstract: The general aim of this study was to understand how a gypsy community living in a neighbourhood (Cida-Talha) segregated socio-spatially from the rest of the city (S. João da Talha), and thus markedly associated with their social identity as gypsy, attaches to their place of residence and in what way, this attachment is associated with identity to place, and with inter-group relations, sense of community and future perspectives in the context of possibility of change of residence. This is a field study with a non-clinical and community sample. In this study, a questionnaire was applied to 89 neighborhood residents and included the following scales: place identity, place attachment, intergroup attitudes, social networks, community solidarity, and future perspectives. The results show that, in general terms, both high and low bonded individuals have a desire to leave the neighborhood, and a low desire to live in a neighborhood with only gypsy people. Individuals who express a lower attachment to their place of residence also reveal less identity with the neighbourhood and São João, and also feel less at home in the community, feel less at home in the community and do not feel like members of the community, and express less gypsy identity. It should also be noted that the group with the least attachment essentially turns to the family when in need of social support. However, they turn less to the family when they need to vent/talk and when they need some information. And both low and high bonded individuals have a lower desire to live in an all-gypsy neighborhood. These results show the need to rethink the creation of exclusive neighbourhoods for the gypsy population and the need to further study the impact of spatial exclusion. |
