In the first part, we point out to the structural dimensions that show how mercy is at the very core identity and mission of the Church. In this way, we underline the faithful reading of the signs of times, the Church’s concentration on the proclamation of the true God, the understanding of sacramentality as a condition of ecclesial decentralization, as well as the sensitivity and attention towards the poorest and those in need. In terms of assumptions and suggestions, the second part explicates ways of a concrete ecclesial living which seeks to be a “house of mercy”. In this sense, six aspects are highlighted: the ecclesial awareness of the need for renovation and reformation; the proclamation of the mercy of God within the perception of the “truth hierarchies”of faith; the challenge to make way for the gratuitousness of God’s forgiveness; mercy and justice as interpellations for the Church’s prophetic mission; the fraternal service as an expression of the merciful love of God; a spirituality and a pastoral attitude that let disclose the merciful face of God.
