Resumo: | The present dissertation has in its origin interest in a home from the early 20th century in Porto, and consists of an exercise of rehabilitation, without the prospect of execution of this project. It is a sketching of an intervention, which strives to award this house with a new dynamic and contemporary characteristics. The objective is, therefore, to restore this building's vitality, reversing the effects of time and the dilapidation phase it is in, which is a result of it being abandoned since 2012. The object of study is a single-family house, dating the licensing process from 1930, and having the project been commissioned to the young architect Júlio José de Brito, constituting an initial moment of the architect's work. As an architectural body, it positions itself in a transitory moment of both the national and international architecture, coexisting in it the inherited trends of the 19th century and the innovative architectural experiences of the 20th century. The work presented in the dissertation didn't constitute, at the outset, a commission, since the current owners' intentions on how to make use of the building are unknown. Consequently, the premises and objectives for assigning an alternative program that could guide the intervention are not defined a priori, and are actualized throughout this essay. The home-atelier emerges as a possible program to enhance the existing building, having developed, throughout this hypothetical exercise, a theoretical and conceptual architectural reflection on this specific case. Thus, relevant architectural aspects, around the condition and permanence of 20th century Oporto's patrimony, are experimented, resulting in the formulation of an architectural exercise in a real context. |
