Resumo: | Introduction: Suicidal ideation, suicide and self-injurious behaviors constitute an unavoidable public health problem, with suicide being one of the main causes of death in adolescence. These are very complex phenomena, which do not result from just one cause, but from multiple interactions between biological, psychological, social, and even cultural factors. Objective: To systematize knowledge about the nurse's action in the face of suicidal ideation in adolescents and young adults. Method: This is an integrative literature review, carried out from November 25th, 2021, to January 26th, 2022, in the following databases: VHL (Virtual Health Library), Google Academic and Scielo (Scientific Electronic Library Online), with the following descriptors: “suicidal ideation”, “young adult”, “nurse’s action”, combined with the Boolean operator “AND”. Results: Six articles were selected, the most evident of which refers to risk and protective factors and that the nurse's action, despite being verbalized as necessary in the prevention of suicidal ideation and behaviors, is still not fully demonstrated. Conclusion: The selected articles revealed flaws in the work performed by nurses in caring for adolescents with suicidal ideation. The lack of knowledge and lack of training on the part of nurses, as well as the taboos and consequent prejudices are also evident. Thus, nursing must be qualified to provide ethical and effective care, physically establishing the patient as it provides psychological support, prioritizing qualified listening and carefree from prejudice or value judgments. |

Thus, nursing must be qualified to provide ethical and effective care, physically establishing the patient as it provides psychological support, prioritizing qualified listening and carefree from prejudice or value judgments.
