Resumo: The Futsal is a very demanding sport on a physical level, having an intermittent character due to the great amount of displacements and changes of direction. It is thus consensual that it requires a good physical preparation, that allows to bear all the requirements that it entails. The Functional Training (TF) stands out as being a simple training methodology, economical and easily adaptable to the needs of each practitioner. It is a training aimed at improving the movement, focusing on performing exercises similar to the daily activities of the practitioners. It shows a very useful and adequate training for the improvement of the physical condition of the athletes and correct execution of the activities. As in most collective sports, futsal also promotes a lot of contact between players. For this reason, it is important to understand the injury factors and how to prevent them. The intrinsic factors are described as the main responsible for most of the injuries in the athletes. The objective of the present study is to investigate the effects of a TF program on the functional imbalances of futsal athletes. For this purpose, two original studies were carried out in the form of articles. The first article is a systematic review about the implications of TF in the physical fitness of athletes of collective sports. This systematic review allowed us to conclude that the study carried out in the field of functional training in young people is very small, revealing a deeper and more specific approach in the young population. The second article reports the application of a TF program and subsequent comparison of results between the different moments of evaluation. 41 athletes, divided by 4 teams from Póvoa Futsal Clube participated in the study. Twenty-two male athletes and nineteen female athletes. The TF program did not show statistically significant differences, with the need for further investigations, if possible with a higher sample, in order to prove the benefits of a TF program in futsal athletes.
