Resumo: This master thesis aims to study an architectural element cherished by many and forgotten by others: the fireplace. Through a journey of various ways of designing the fireplace, the intention consist in explore the relationships that this element establishes with the house. From its historical context, to construction aspects, to the sensory dimension of fire and the influence of thermal conditions in architecture, the intention is to explore various universes of the fireplace as an architectural element that structures and dynamizes the design of the domestic space. Present in human life since the beginning of civilizations, the role of the fireplace in the family home has changed over the years, and these changes are reflected in the design of the dwelling itself. So, a search and analysis of several case studies were carried out, as well as the reading of several bibliographic sources that support the various design themes developed.
