O Papel dos Netos nas Redes Sociais Pessoais de Idosos Portugueses

O objetivo central deste estudo é analisar o papel dos netos nas redes sociais dos idosos, comparando as redes sociais pessoais dos indivíduos que assinalam netos no seio das suas redes com aquelas que se pontuam pela inexistência de netos. Nesse sentido, pretende-se analisar as diferenças entre estes dois grupos ao nível da estrutura, funções e satisfação com a rede social e com o apoio social. Pretende-se igualmente caracterizar a presença dos netos na rede, analisando questões como o número médio de netos nas redes, a distância que os separa dos avós, a frequência de contactos entre avós e netos e os apoios prestados pelos netos. Os dados foram recolhidos através do Instrumento de Avaliação da Rede Social Pessoal – Idosos (IARSP-Idosos) (Guadalupe e Vicente, 2012). Este instrumento consiste numa entrevista semi-estruturada que possibilita a avaliação de diversas dimensões e variáveis da rede social pessoal do inquirido. Foram entrevistadas 287 pessoas, com idades compreendidas entre 65 e 98 (M = 77,15), maioritariamente da zona centro de Portugal. Dos 287 inquiridos, 192 (66,90%) assinalaram a presença de um ou mais netos na rede e 95 (33,10%) não referenciaram qualquer neto na rede. Os principais resultados evidenciam três aspetos relevantes: a) existem diferenças na rede entre aqueles que referem netos e os que não referem, essencialmente ao nível das características estruturais; b) não parece haver diferenças nas características funcionais entre as redes com netos e as redes sem netos, exceto na companhia social, onde as redes sem netos apresentam níveis superiores; c) os idosos que incluem netos nas suas redes apresentam maior nível na satisfação com a rede do que aqueles que não referiram netos. Apesar das redes com netos apresentarem níveis de apoio e frequências de contacto inferiores, e maior dispersão geográfica, os sujeitos que referenciam netos nas suas redes apresentam um maior nível de satisfação com as mesmas. Por outro lado, o nível de satisfação com a rede parece estar significativamente relacionado com os apoios prestados pelos netos, o que indicia um papel relevante dos netos no tecido relacional dos idosos, que deverá ser explorado em estudos futuros, através de outras metodologias e/ou instrumentos. / The main goal of this study is to analyse grandchildren’s role inside the elderly’s social network, establishing comparations between those that have grandchildren in their social network and those who do not. Knowing that, the purpose is to analyse differences between this two groups regarding the structural, functional and satisfactional factors with the social network and social support. It is equally intentional to demonstrate and distinguish the presence of the grandchildren in the social network, analyzing issues as the average number of it, the distance between grandchildren and grandparents, their usual contacts and the support given by the younger group. Data was collected by means of the Personal Social Network Assessment Instrument – Elderly (IARSP-Elderly). This instrument is based on a semi-structured interview which possibilities the evaluation of several dimensions and variables of the respondent's personal social network. 287 individuals between 65 and 98 years old (M = 77,15) were interviewed, mainly from de central county of Portugal, in which 192 (66,90%) indicated the presence of one or more grandchildren and 95 (33,10%) do not refer to any. The main results reveal three revelant aspects: a) there are diferences in the networks between those who mention grandchildren and those who don't, essenciatly in what refers to structural characteristics; b) aparently there are no diferences in the functional characteristics between the networks with grandchildren and the networks without them, except in social relations, where the networks without grandchildren reveal higher levels; c) the elders who include grandchildren in their networks show a higher level of satisfaction with them comparing to those who do not include them. Although the networks with grandchildren reveal lower suport levels and contact frequencies, and bigger geographic dispersion, the individuals who refer the existence of grandchildren in their networks show a higher level of satisfaction with them. On the other hand, the level of satisfaction with the network seems to be significantly related to the suport given by the grandchildren, which sugests a relevant role by the grandchildren in the elders' relational tissue that should be explored in future studies through other metodologies and/or instruments.
