Resumo: This paper commits to the study of the Brazilian national identity present in the architecture during the Modern Movement in Brazil, through a methodology of comparison with music from 1922 to 1964. It is guided by the principle that there was a Kunstwollen at that time that crossed the two compared scopes and provided the most varied affinities between them, whether regarding their theoretical inquietude or the result of their respective works. The present study of Modern Brazilianness is split into three sections: its prelude, which is revealed in a comparison between the neo-colonial movement and the samba in Rio de Janeiro; its consolidation, construed through the trajectories of Lucio Costa and Heitor Villa-Lobos; and its sublimation, expressed by the symbiosis between the works of Oscar Niemeyer and the narratives of the Bossa Nova genre. Therefore, this dissertation intends to contribute to the understanding of the complex idea of Brazilianness, which up until now remains appreciated and striking in Brazilian culture.
