Tudo neste romance parece ter um duplo significado. Para reflectir sobre esse duplo sentido, a dissertação está dividida em duas partes: a primeira está focada na narrativa do romance e a segunda na sua recepção. Isso significa que iremos ler o romance como um leitor de primeiro nível e como um leitor de segundo nível (um leitor de outros leitores). Na primeira parte, partindo do conceito bakhtiniano de exotopia, observaremos como o autor constrói a identidade do herói, usando uma narrativa na primeira pessoa, as técnicas espácio-temporais, o trabalho da imagologia. Na segunda parte da dissertação, partindo da análise do fenómeno da polifonia no romance de Henry Miller, iremos sugerir uma nova leitura, que se abrirá a abordagens modernas da classificação literária. Será proposta uma classificação do romance de Miller no espaço da literatura-mundo, baseando o nosso argumento no diálogo intercultural que o autor estabelece com o público internacional. Acentuar-se-á, neste último momento da dissertação, a interacção constante que a escrita de Miller sugere entre o acto de escrever e o acto de ler, o que permitirá concluir que cada leitura pode infinitamente enriquecer e reescrever um texto literário.Ce travail a pour but de proposer une nouvelle lecture du Tropique du Cancer de Henry Miller, inspirée par son ambiguïté latente. Tout dans ce roman semble avoir une double signification. Pour réfléchir sur ce double sens, notre thèse est divisée en deux parties: la première se focalise sur la diégèse du roman et la seconde sur sa réception. Cela signifie que nous lirons le roman comme un lecteur du premier degré et comme un lecteur du second degré (un lecteur d'autres lecteurs). Dans la première partie, nous partirons du concept d’exotopie d’après Bakhtine pour observer comment l'auteur construit l'identité du héros à travers la narration à la première personne et à travers une utilisation spécifique du temps et de l'espace narratifs ainsi que de l'imagologie. Dans la deuxième partie de l'analyse, nous réfléchirons sur le phénomène de la polyphonie dans le roman de Henry Miller et proposerons une nouvelle lecture du roman, qui s'ouvre aux approches modernes de la classification littéraire. Nous proposerons de classer le roman de Miller dans le domaine de la littérature-monde, en fondant notre argumentation sur le dialogue interculturel que l'auteur mène dans son roman avec le lectorat international. Cette partie examinera le phénomène d'interaction entre l'acte d'écriture et l'acte de lecture qui est constamment présent dans le roman de Miller. Cette interaction nous permettra de conclure que toute lecture peut infiniment enrichir et réécrire un texte littéraire.This work is intended to suggest a new reading of Henry Miller’s Tropic of Cancer, inspired by its latent ambiguity. Everything in this novel seems to have a double meaning. To reflect on this double sense, the dissertation is divided into two parts: the first is focused on the narrative and the second one on its reception. This means reading the novel as a first-level and as a second-level reader (a reader of other readers). In the first part, beginning with the Bakhtinian concept of exotopy we will observe how the author constructs hero’s identity using a first-person narrative, with appropriate spatiotemporal and imagology technics. In the second part of the analysis, we will begin with the phenomenon of polyphony in Henry Miller’s novel and go on to suggest a new reading of the novel opening it up to modern approaches in the field of literary classification. We will propose that Miller’s novel should be classified as world literature, basing our argument on its inherent intercultural dialogue with an international readership.
