Its control includes pharmacological therapy. However, it is observed that its adherence is suboptimal. In Portugal, there is a scarcity of studies focused on patients’ views on pharmacological therapeutic adherence in Arterial Hypertension. Objective: This study aimed to quantitatively assess tactics that hypertensive patients of Primary Health Care consider most useful in managing limitations to pharmacological therapeutic adherence in Arterial Hypertension. Methods: Quantitative cross-sectional study with pre-test data collection between January 31st and February 19th and for the study between March 5th and 25th 2024. A questionnaire designed and validated on tactics to improve medication adherence in Arterial Hypertension was applied in follow-up appointments to hypertensive patients from different regions of Portugal recruited by their primary care doctors. Variables: level of adherence, age, sex, location, residential area, living alone or not, monthly income, level of education, monotherapy or combined therapy, number of pills for Arterial Hypertension taken daily, blood pressure control in the last six months, indirect evaluation of therapeutic adherence through Electronic Medical Prescription and tactics to improve it. Descriptive and inferential statistics were performed using IBM SPSS Statistics version 28.0.1.0 software. Results: Internal consistency of 0,640 by Cronbach’s alpha coefficient. Convenience sample of n=41 patients with Arterial Hypertension, with a mean age of 69,1 years (46-86), with the majority having completed the 12th grade or less (82,9%). No significant association was observed between the level of adherence and the other variables. The tactic considered the least useful was “Having psychologists to help with medication intake.” (53,7%). The most relevant tactics were “The doctor explains what high blood pressure is and the problems it can cause, the importance of controlling blood pressure well and taking medication correctly.” (90,3%) and “Having more patients with a primary care doctor and more primary care homes nearby.” (85,4%). Discussion: This study identified tactics with greater utility to increase anti-hypertensive pharmacological therapy adherence based on patients’ perspective, whereas non-adherents provided fewer answers, attempting to address a gap in such knowledge in Portugal. Conclusion: As the most cited tactic for greater therapeutic adherence “The doctor explains what high blood pressure is and the problems it can cause, the importance of controlling blood pressure well and taking medication correctly.”, that implies a better and deeper doctor-patient relationship.Introdução: A Hipertensão Arterial apresenta uma prevalência de 32% na população portuguesa, sendo considerada um problema de Saúde Pública. O seu controlo inclui a terapêutica farmacológica, no entanto verifica-se que a adesão a esta é sub-ótima. Em Portugal, são escassos os estudos que focam a opinião de utentes hipertensos sobre a adesão terapêutica farmacológica na Hipertensão Arterial. Objetivo: Avaliar de forma quantitativa táticas que utentes hipertensos dos Cuidados de Saúde Primários consideram mais úteis na gestão de limitações à adesão terapêutica farmacológica na Hipertensão Arterial. Métodos: Estudo quantitativo transversal com recolha de dados pré-teste entre 31 de janeiro e 19 de fevereiro e para estudo entre 5 e 25 de março de 2024. Aplicação de questionário, em consulta de seguimento de Hipertensão Arterial, construído e validado, sobre táticas promotoras de adesão terapêutica medicamentosa a doentes hipertensos, de diferentes regiões do país, recrutados pelos seus médicos de família. Variáveis: nível de adesão, idade, sexo, localidade, zona de habitação, viver só ou acompanhado, rendimento mensal, grau de escolaridade, monoterapia ou terapia combinada, número de comprimidos para a Hipertensão Arterial tomados na totalidade, controlo da pressão arterial nos últimos 6 meses, avaliação indireta da adesão terapêutica por consulta da Prescrição Eletrónica Médica e táticas para aumento da adesão terapêutica. Estatística descritiva e inferencial através do software IBM SPSS Statistics versão 28.0.1.0. Resultados: Consistência interna de 0,640 pelo coeficiente alpha de Cronbach. Amostra de conveniência de n=41 doentes com Hipertensão Arterial, com idade média de 69,1 anos (46-86), tendo a maioria grau de escolaridade igual ou inferior ao 12° ano (82,9%). Não se observou associação significativa entre o nível de adesão e as restantes variáveis. A tática considerada menos útil foi “Ter psicólogos para ajudar a tomar a medicação.” (53,7%). As táticas mais relevantes foram “O médico dizer o que é a tensão alta e os problemas que pode dar, a importância de ter a tensão bem e de tomar bem os medicamentos.” (90,3%) e “Ter mais pessoas com médico de família e mais centros de saúde perto.” (85,4%). Discussão: Este estudo identificou táticas com maior utilidade para o aumento da adesão terapêutica farmacológica anti-hipertensora na perspetiva dos utentes, os não aderentes menos respondendo, tentando colmatar défice de tal conhecimento em Portugal.
