Resumo: This thesis focus on the study areas of performance and composition in electronic music, that being made through the use of an augmented acoustic piano. It establishes a bridge between the acoustic and the electronic in terms of the process within composition, production and improvisation, using a strong technological element. It seeks an aproach that is mostly experimental, but also necessarily personal, on electronic music, laptop music, and other familiar languages within, working with an acoustic only input. A big part of the work here presented focuses on the expansion of the acoustic piano sound properties, and its sonic manipulation in real time, namely timbre, tone and tempo. Intrinsic to this sound manipulation is also the interaction model between the performer and the instrument, being the main goal that this interaction, in the whole of the augmented piano, that it depends solely on the acoustic input of the performer. As a proof of concept together with this thesis comes a musical piece composed with the technological prototype developed, that demonstrates the sound properties of the augmented piano as well as the developed interaction models.
