Resumo: Tourist enterprises, especially resorts, are commonly related to the appearance of environmental conflicts with traditional communities. The article intends to discuss the environmental impacts and conflicts of tourist enterprises in the State of Rio de Janeiro. It specifically aims to analyze failures and inconsistencies of environmental licensing of tourist enterprises and call the attention to the importance of the tourism professional on the environmental impact assessment (EIA). Therefore, an exploratory research was adopted by means of bibliographical and documental survey. It was concluded that there is a need of better understanding of the tourist phenomenon in the environmental licensing as a way to contribute to the strengthening of this instrument of the Brazilian policy in the natural heritage protection.

O artigo tem por objetivo discutir os impactos e os conflitos ambientais de empreendimentos turísticos no Estado do Rio de Janeiro. Especificamente, visa analisar falhas e inconsistências do licenciamento ambiental de empreendimentos turísticos e apontar a importância do profissional de turismo na avaliação de impactos ambientais (AIA). Para tanto, optouse por pesquisa exploratória, por meio de levantamento bibliográfico e documental.
