Resumo: | Introduction: The Hepatitis C Virus (HCV) infection is na importante cause of morbimortality in world. The HCV infection in prisoners is a social health problem, being more frequent in this population. Thus, this study objective was the characterization of prisoners population with this disease. Material and methods: Evaluation of an infected with HCV prisoners population by three Gastroenterologists in prision with a clinical history, analytical study and FibroScan®. Results: 75 prisoners were identified with HCV infection, with 42,3 ± 8,1 years of mean age and 24 ± 3Kg/m2 of mean body mass índex (BMI). 70,7% admit intravenous drug use and 44,2% referred prision-made tattoos. 77,3% admit daily alcohol consumption, ≥ 30g of alcohol/day in most prisoners. The most common HCV genotypes are 1 (56%) and 3 (38%).Only 13,3% had na advanced fibrosis stage in FibroScan® results. Discussion: Intravenous drug use is the most importante risk factor for HCV infection. Prision-made tattoos is also na importante risk factor, from what the awareness of the prisoners to their risks is very important. Despite daily alcohol consumption only a few prisoners had advanced fibrosis. Conclusion: Prisoners are a population with a hight prevalence of HCV infection, being an importante group for treatment. |
