This dissertation presents the theme of tools for the recognition of pre-existence. In a context of ruin, the work presented seeks to deepen what is the zero phase of a given intervention. Thus, the Cabedelo lime kiln in Viana do Castelo is considered as a case study. Due to its historical and morphological interest, it is possible to question the first approach to the ruin, and how its graphic documentation is possible. The technique and the process of photogrammetry survey are described and can be used and become a tool available to the architect in the interpretation of a given structure. The results presented as phase zero resulting from the crossing of the documentary sources associated with lime and through photogrammetry, converge in a set of graphic representations of high accuracy and detail that, by going through an interpretative process focused on morphological analysis, allow an even closer and thoughtful look on the part of the architect as an agent who intervenes in the ruin.
