Resumo: | Both nationally and internationally, there is an increasing interest in architecture curatorial practices and exhibition design as a production device that is, itself, architecture. Therefore, the present dissertation combines communication, curation and architecture in order to contribute to an idea of exhibition as architecture; it discusses the exhibition's potential to be more than "representation" as well as the oportunity to become a production device for the architect, through the analysis of curatorial and design premises as architectural thought processes. As a starting point, the investigation analyses communication as a process of social construction, connecting it to art and architecture, creating a transdisciplinary perspective that gradually approaches exhibition as a medium of spatial communication. Building on the idea that "showing is telling" the exhibition is scrutinized according to three structural concepts: communication, language, and experience - through which paradigmatic examples are analyzed to frame the exhibit as an autonomous entity. Looking deeper into the definition of architecture exhibition, its components and the articulation between the curatorial project and the spatial experience, the concept of curatorial design is introduced, as well as a discution on authorship and roles that the architect might play in the exhibition. Through four case studies, from a national and international scope, the present dissertation highlights a cross-section of creative and curatorial production that constructs the architecture exhibition as an architectural experience with an essential role in knowledge production, communication with the public and spatial experimentation. |
