Resumo: This article relates to the practice of Western Philosophy in Counselling and in Coaching. It takes into account the contributions made by Lou Marinoff and Pierre Hadot to the subject, among others. It highlights parallelism and developments based on the Scripture, the Epicureans and Stoics texts, and the Philosophy of Language.The argument is developed in terms of questioning the language use in communication, the polysemy of words and concepts, the problem of meaning and definitions, contexts and their relevance, with philosophical and spiritual implications in order to identify, clarify and respond to existential crisis and the challenges of our present time in Europe.It can be taken as an exercise for Counselling in alternative to conventional therapies, in as much as a tool for self-Coaching.

Parte das contribuições feitas por Lou Marinoff e Pierre Hadot, entre outras.Põe em evidência paralelismos e desenvolvimentos resultantes da aproximação ao tema por parte da teologia cristã, fundamentada na Bíblia, aos textos dos Epicuristas e Estoicos, e da filosofia da linguagem. O argumento desenvolve-se em termos do questionamento sobre a polissemia das palavras e dos conceitos, o problema da significação e das definições, os contextos e a sua pertinência, com leituras nos planos filosófico e espiritual, para identificar, clarificar e responder aos vazios na nossa vida, aos desafios do nosso tempo caracterizados pela crise numa Europa em mudança.
