Os salários baixaram significativamente, a taxa de desemprego subiu consideravelmente e muitas empresas fecharam as suas portas. Enquanto isto, a violência e o terrorismo proliferavam nos países do Médio Oriente, o que levou a que milhões de pessoas fugissem para a Europa, principalmente para os países mediterrânicos, criando então uma crise de refugiados devido a essa afluência. Portugal não sofreu de forma expressiva destas “enfermidades” (afluxo massivo de refugiados e terrorismo). Precisamente por isso, o fator de segurança vai tornar-se um dos grandes responsáveis pelo desvio dos turistas para o nosso país Foi então que a verdadeira descoberta turística aconteceu, e assim se tem vindo a manter devido a uma variedade de fatores como a afabilidade do português, a qualidade e variedade gastronómica, um clima quente, o património cultural, etc. E sempre a segurança. Este interesse dos turistas não passou despercebido, os portugueses viram nisso uma boa oportunidade de negócio, tentado recuperar rendimentos perdidos. Foi então que o Alojamento Local (AL) marcou uma posição relevante do setor do Turismo. Muitos sentiram os benefícios deste negócio, mas devido ao seu crescimento acelerado notou-se uma falta de regulação. Criam-se debates e discussões em volta deste tema, chegando até ao ponto de existir alguma animosidade contra os turistas. Começa-se a falar cada vez mais em gentrificação, fenómeno que afeta as dinâmicas e composições de uma região ou bairro. Ao longo do trabalho vamos tentar perceber melhor este fenómeno através da elaboração de entrevistas a proprietários de AL e de pesquisa documental (complementando com dados estatísticos) para expor as diferentes opiniões acerca do crescimento desta atividade turística.At the beggining of the decade Portugal was crossing a major economical and social crisis: wages have dropped significantly, the unemployment rate has risen consideravly and many companies have closed their doors. At the meanwhile, violence and terrorismo proliferated in the Middle East countries, which led millions of people to flee to Europe, mainly to the Mediterranean countries. This influxo f people generated a refugee crisis. Portugal has not suffered significantly from these setbacks (massive influxo f refugees and terrorismo). Precisely for this reason, the security factor will become one of the major responsible for the diversion of tourists to the country. It was than that the real touristic discovery took place. It has been like so due to a variety of factores such as the portuguese hospitality, the quality and varietu of portuguese cuisine, the warm climate… This growth of tourists did not go unnoticed. The portuguese saw that as a good business opportunity and a way to recover the lost income due to the economic crisis. It was then that Local Accomodation marked a relevant position of the Tourism sector. Many felt the benefits of this business, but due to its rapid growth a lack of regulation was felt. There are many disccussions and debates around this subject, to the point of building some animosity rowards tourists. More and more people are talking about gentrification, a phenomenon that affects the dynamic and composition of a region or neighborhood.
