Resumo: ln this essay, my aim is to follow Beira's administrative division through the parallel between the origin of the toponym and the territory, in order to understand the changes introduced by diverse administrative reforms throughout history. I will stress the controversy opened by the imposition of the liberal political and administrative model among the defenders of the district division and supporters of the provincial division.
