Resumo: An increase in energy consumption as well as the scarcity of fossil resources and global warming due to greenhouse gases emissions resulted in a strong focus on non-conventional energy sources to meet energy needs. In this context, the production of electricity from renewable sources is one of the most promising solutions adopted by many countries to guarantee this energy transition. Portugal, due to its privileged geographical location, is one of the countries with the best conditions for the implementation of renewable energies, with particular emphasis on photovoltaic energy, given its maturity, flexibility and easy installation. In 2014, Portugal published legislation on self-consumption, decree-law 153/2014, of October 20, 2014, encouraging self-production from renewable energies and, consequently, a decrease in the purchase of electricity from the grid. Self-consumption is a decentralized model of electric energy production where the electric energy produced satisfies the needs of the consumer. The present dissertation analyzes the economic viability of self-consumption solar photovoltaic systems in residential buildings in Portugal, with the possibility of integrating energy storage. The systems analyzed are based on simulations for three typical consumption profiles with two tariff regimes, in three geographic locations in Portugal, all with the same contracted power. keywords: self-consumption, self-production, energy, photovoltaic, economic analysis
