Resumo: Against the background of the "sanctification" of the laity in Portugal, throughout the Modern Age, but also seeking to articulate this dimension with other scenarios present in territories of Catholic origin, this article seeks to draw attention to the molds in which, in hagiography and sacred biography, the authors invest in the construction of a model portrait, guided by the exercise of heroic virtues - above all charity and love for the poor - and by the fervor of spiritual and devout practices, and in which, in most cases , the dimension around miracles - which had marked the writing of texts of that nature, since its primitive times - is marked by its absence.
