Facet analysis in business contexts and its use by information users throughout the organization may be of great importance for the development of information systems, but it is necessary to understand how these processes are being developed and if there are different approaches to this concepts and practices in contexts other than the bibliographical domain. An exploratory approach was carried out to review the literature indexed in the Library and Information Science and Technology Abstracts, Scopus and ISI Web of Science. This paper presents a comparison of the articles analysed according to the following criteria: theoretical basis used in the works, definitions of facet analysis and faceted classification, facet formulation processes, principles for the arrangement and ordering of facets, and also the technological solutions for the creation and use of faceted classifications in the analysed contexts, such as financial products, electronic documents in small, medium and micro enterprises, as well as engineering documents, and processes in manufactoring industries. The literature analysed in the present work highlights the potential of facet analysis, despite the different approaches and theoretical support expressed in the articles.
