Resumo: | The Brazilian poet Ramalho is an internationally renowned Associate-Professor of Theory of Literature and Brazilian Literature (Universidade Federal de Sergipe) and co-founder of CIMEEP (International and Multidisciplinary Centre for Epic Studies, 2013). She has devoted the last thirty years to the role of poetry in the shaping of identities. My presentation focuses on her poem entitled Sessenta minutos (Sixty minutes) with the objective of showing how kairos is central for finding identity. Ramalho’s epic poem structures on a multimedial framework, and proposes a conscious and continuous stream of cultural references that stimulate intertextuality in the reader’s/listener’s mind. Consequently, daily life, historical circumstances and myth intertwine, producing a sensory surrounding that evokes the description of the shield of Achilles’ (Iliad 18). Homer’s description would have produced a significant effect on the audience while listening. |
