MO: “One hundred years after the Titanic", this was 2013’s theme that the International Maritime Organization (IMO) has celebrated the World Maritime Day, highlighting the importance of maritime safety by an unfortunate coincidence in the previous year with the shipwreck of the "Costa Concordia" cruise, alerting the international community that even a hundred years later, the human element is still a complex issue concerning safety at sea. The relevance of the issue is undeniable, especially where the recent severe disaster with a super-cruise ship, the Mediterranean basin, a territory of geostrategic position and characterized by the presence of permanent tension areas, which consequently exacerbate the present situation of accidents in the regional seas. associated with non-compliance with international standards remains the main cause of accidents at sea. This work is to analyze the current maritime safety situation in the Mediterranean region, especially in Italy, from the moment the Costa Concordia tragedy occurred at Italian territorial waters. That said, maritime safety is an extremely current topic, characterized by major changes resulting from technological development and the growing threats in the Mare Nostrum basin.
