With the proliferation of the use of these networks for very different purposes, it has appeared also the necessity of developing one standard to unify all these types of networks and make them interoperable. This standard is Sensor Observation Service (SOS) and was developed by the Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC) in 2007 as part of the Sensor Web Enablement (SWE) activities.
