Operations management in periods of crisis within the Portuguese wine industry

The recently emerged pandemic exposed once again the vulnerability of industries to external crises. Focusing on the wine industry as a key sector of the Portuguese economy, this exploratory study intends to, from a proactive perspective, assess how firms are preparing themselves for future crises, and, from a reactive perspective, their response to crises. As the industry is mostly composed of Microenterprises and SMEs, this study also intends to differentiate the crisis management practices according to the size of the firms. The data was collected by conducting interviews with firms operating in the industry, and with one industry’s Association.
