Logistic regression approach for malaria vector control program impact assessment in MozambiqueHealth impactmalaria modelingmultivariate analysisevaluationDissertation presented as the partial requirement for obtaining a Master's degree in Statistics and Information Management, specialization in Information Analysis and ManagementAvailable impact evaluation uses indirect approaches to estimate the effect of malaria vector control programs to the health outcomes. The indirect approach may be weak because it is difficult to have control of other factors that may influence all-cause childhood mortality in the population and should not be plausible to establish a linkage between program activates and health outcomes. This study aims to estimate the effect of malaria vector control programs on a health outcome (malaria rapid test result) among children under 5 years in Mozambique, using a multivariate logistic regression approach for direct impact measure of the health outcome. Children visited during the 2018 Malaria Indicator Survey will be considered for the study, a logistic model is set to explain the variability on odds of a children under 5 years be positive for malaria rapid test given a set of malaria vector control variables collected during the survey, namely, the access and use of mosquito net, children’s household indoor residual spray and children under 5 years caregiver ‘s knowledge regarding malaria. The odds of malaria rapid test be positive decreases 0.282 times when the proportion of mosquito net in the household (Pmosq) increase one unit. The odds of malaria rapid test be positive for children living in pulverized household is 0.600 times less than the odds of malaria rapid test be positive in children living in non-pulverized household. The odd related to caregiver’s knowledge regarding malaria(kap) is close to zero, meaning that has less impact on health outcome. The transformed model shows that activities related to access and use of mosquito nets (Pmosq, slept), Indoor Residual Spraying (Pulv) and knowledge and attitudes towards malaria of child caregivers (Kap) are protectors for the risk of positive malaria rapid test result with odds less than 1, meaning that children under five years covered by malaria vector control program likely have less chance of positive rapid test result than children under five years uncovered.Damásio, Bruno Miguel PintoRUNZavale, Olímpio Michael2022-11-16T14:05:41Z2022-10-252022-10-25T00:00:00Zinfo:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersioninfo:eu-repo/semantics/masterThesisapplication/pdfhttp://hdl.handle.net/10362/145562TID:203098110enginfo:eu-repo/semantics/openAccessreponame:Repositório Científico de Acesso Aberto de Portugal (Repositórios Cientìficos)instname:Agência para a Sociedade do Conhecimento (UMIC) - FCT - Sociedade da Informaçãoinstacron:RCAAP2024-03-11T05:26:04Zoai:run.unl.pt:10362/145562Portal AgregadorONGhttps://www.rcaap.pt/oai/openaireopendoar:71602024-03-20T03:52:09.160636Repositório Científico de Acesso Aberto de Portugal (Repositórios Cientìficos) - Agência para a Sociedade do Conhecimento (UMIC) - FCT - Sociedade da Informaçãofalse |
