Resumo: | Introduction: The emergency department is a unique care environment where the family, with little or no preparation time, may experience a sudden change in the clinical condition of their relative. It may cause an increase in uncertainties and influence the ability to cope. In order to provide the best care for the family, which faces a critical situation in the emergency department, it is necessary to first identify their needs within this specific context. Thus, the following research question was elaborated: What are the family’s needs of the person, adult or elderly, in a critical situation in the emergency department? Aim: To identify the needs of the family of the person, adult or elderly, in critical care in the emergency department. Materials and Methods: The descriptors DeCS and MeSH were analyzed according to the needs of the family of the critically ill person. Boolean search in database search engines: PubMed e EBSCO. A total of 36 articles were obtained, constituting 5 articles for the sample. Content analysis was carried out, from which 5 categories of needs were obtained. Results: The needs considered most significant by family members were the categories of meaning and information needs, followed by the category of proximity. The categories of comfort and support were singled out as having less importance to the family of the person in critical care. Conclusion: Relatives of the person in critical care in the emergency department have a wide range of needs. The results of this study can help emergency health workers to better understand the needs of the family and develop strategies for the satisfaction of these families. |
